Cookies and browser storage
This page explains what the Aleaf website at aleafapp.com saves on your device. It covers the home page, the invite pages, the early access page, the comparison page and this page. The Aleaf app is different: it uses storage on your phone and tools built into the app, and our Privacy Notice explains those and everything else we do with your information.
Aleaf is run by ALEAF STUDIOS LTD, company number 17401876, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ.
The website sets no cookies.
Browser storage
The website can save up to four small items in your browser's local storage, which works in a similar way to a cookie. This is everything it stores:
aleaf_langremembers your language choice.aleaf_ratings_cache_v1reuses an app store rating for up to 12 hours before the home page asks again. It holds only public rating numbers.aleaf_join_pending_v1keeps an early access sign-up on your device until our server confirms it, so a weak connection does not lose it. It holds the name, e-mail address and choices you entered, and is removed once the sign-up is confirmed or when the page is next opened more than two days later.aleaf_stats_offis saved only if you use the page that turns visit counting off. It records your choice.
We think these items fit the UK exceptions for things you ask for or that the site needs, so we do not ask for permission first. You can delete them in your browser settings.
Counting visits to the home page
Visit counting is not switched on. Nothing about your visit to the home page is counted.
We count visits to the home page, and only the home page, without cookies and without saving anything on your device. Each visit gets a one-off ID that exists only while the page is open, and we do not link one visit to another. The counts go to our analytics provider, PostHog, which stores them in the EU. They carry the page address without anything after a question mark, the name of the website you came from, a short source tag if the link you used had one that we added, your browser language, your browser family and device type, how far down the page you went and how long it was open, and your approximate location (country, region and city, and your time zone), which the provider works out from your IP address. The provider does not keep your IP address on the stored visit record.
Counting is off when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. You can also turn it off yourself at aleafapp.com/stats. Our Privacy Notice has the full detail.
Requests to other companies
- Google Fonts. The home page and the invite pages load fonts from Google, so Google sees your IP address and browser details.
- Google's database. The home page asks Google's database whether there is an app store rating to show, so Google sees your IP address.
- Hosting. The website runs on Google Firebase Hosting and its delivery partners, who see your IP address and keep ordinary server logs.
We do not know of any cookies set by these requests. On an invite page, if you tap Copy, the page puts the invite code on your clipboard. The early access page sends us a few anonymous counts, such as that the page was opened. They carry no name or e-mail address.
Your choices
- Block or delete browser storage in your browser settings.
- Turn visit counting off at aleafapp.com/stats, or use a browser that sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
- For questions about this page, e-mail support@aleafapp.com. If you are unhappy with how we use your information, tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator.
