Delete Your Account

English

Last updated: 7 November 2026. Version: delete-account-2026-11-07.

This page explains how to delete your account in the Aleaf food scanner app, what we delete and what stays. You can use it even if you no longer have the app. Aleaf is run by ALEAF STUDIOS LTD, company number 17401876. On this page, "we", "us" and "our" mean ALEAF STUDIOS LTD. Our Privacy Notice explains how we use your information.

Delete your account in the app

You can delete your account in the app: open Profile and tap Delete my account. This starts at once and cannot be undone. It deletes your profile, sign-in account, My List, Favourites, list of corrections, invite and leaderboard records and email preference records. Some information stays, and we list it under "What stays after you delete your account". Deleting your account does not stop an Aleaf Pro plan: stop the renewal in your App Store or Google Play settings.

  1. Open Aleaf and sign in.
  2. Tap Profile in the bottom bar.
  3. Go to the bottom of the screen, below your email address and Logout, and tap Delete my account.
  4. Read the warning. This page has the full lists of what goes and what stays. Tap Delete my account again to confirm, or Cancel to keep your account.

If Aleaf asks you to choose your country first, the same option is on that screen.

If you no longer have the app or cannot sign in

You do not need the app to ask us to delete your account.

Email support@aleafapp.com from the address registered to your account and ask us to delete your account. We may ask you one question to check it is you. If you used Sign in with Apple and hid your email address, tell us and we will ask you questions about your account instead. We will reply within one month of confirming that you are the account holder and tell you what we can do.

You can also delete your account in the app yourself:

  1. Install Aleaf again, the way you did before.
  2. Sign in the way you did before: email and password, Google, or Sign in with Apple. If you forgot your password, tap Forgot Password? to get a reset email.
  3. Follow the steps above.

If you only used Aleaf as a guest, we hold no account for you. Your guest choices and your list of scanned products stay on your phone. Aleaf's analytics tools can still receive usage events from your phone, such as the barcode of a product you scanned, under a random ID. See "Analytics and app tools" below.

If you are a parent or guardian and think your child has an Aleaf account, email support@aleafapp.com with the email address on the account. We will close the account and delete the information we hold about it, except the items listed under "What stays after you delete your account".

What happens when you confirm

  • In the app: deleting starts the moment you confirm. The app shows a loading screen while our server runs its steps, then signs you out and shows "Your account has been deleted." If the deletion itself fails, the app tells you and your account is still there, so you can try again. Your sign-in account is removed last.
  • Clean-up steps: removing invite, leaderboard and payment records is best effort. If one step fails, the rest still goes ahead and the app does not tell you. Email us if you think something was left behind.
  • By email: we reply within one month of confirming that you are the account holder.
  • Other companies: Google, which hosts our database, can take a limited time to erase deleted data from its own systems.

What we delete

When you delete your account, we delete:

  • your profile: name, email address, any phone number, country, language, age range, allergy, diet and boycott choices, the codes your phone gives us for notifications, and a profile photo file if you ever had one
  • your sign-in account
  • your scan history (My List), Favourites and list of corrections
  • the free-scan records linked to your account, and your account ID in the device record
  • the log of changes to your choices that our team can see
  • your email updates choice and the record of when you made it
  • your invite code and link, the record of each invite you made, and the record that links you to the person who invited you
  • your leaderboard membership, rank, board entry and any prize claim, with its delivery details

What stays after you delete your account

Some information stays. For each item we say what stays and, where we can, why and for how long. "No deletion date" means we have not set one. We keep an item only while the reason given for it still applies.

  • Correction records and photos. They stay as part of the product's history. We remove your account ID from them and delete the text of any boycott message you sent, and the list of switches shown with it. Photos sent with corrections stay too, including label photos we could not read. Other signed-in Aleaf users can open correction photos. If you want a photo deleted, email us the product and the date you sent it, and we will delete it unless the law requires us to keep it. No deletion date otherwise.
  • Product details you helped add. Details filled in from your photos, and photos we approved as a product picture, belong to the product. No deletion date.
  • Purchase, subscription and discount records. If you bought Aleaf Pro, we keep the plan, the price you chose, dates, amounts, order numbers, any discount code you used and store references, with your account ID replaced by a scrambled code (a string of letters and numbers that does not name you directly). We keep them for our accounts, to deal with purchase disputes, and so that you can restore a plan you still hold on a new account. Notices from Apple or Google about your plan still carry your account ID, and we delete them after 90 days. We do not delete the rest automatically. We keep purchase records for as long as UK law requires a company to keep its accounting records, which is usually six years.
  • The device record. It lists the products counted on your phone for the free allowance, without your account ID. We keep it until about 400 days after the last scan counted on the phone, so deleting and re-creating an account does not reset the allowance.
  • Staff and misuse-check records. Audit log lines that name your account stay, as a record of changes. So do the scrambled codes we keep so one person is counted once in "This isn't what I scanned" reports. These codes are strings of letters and numbers that do not name you directly. No deletion date.
  • The winner record. If you won a prize, we keep the season, place, number of counted friends, kind of prize and outcome as a record of the result, with no name and no account ID. No deletion date.
  • Emails. Your emails to support, and the automatic notices we get when you send a report, correction or feedback, stay in our support mailbox, as our copy of what you told us. We have not set a fixed period. Our email delivery provider, which delivers the notices, keeps its own logs for a limited time.
  • Backups. Our database is backed up. A copy of what you deleted can stay in a backup for a limited time, until the backup is overwritten. We do not restore a deleted account from a backup.
  • Usage information. See "Analytics and app tools" below.
  • Label photos read by Google's Gemini. When you send a label photo, it goes to Google's Gemini AI service to be read. Google's own terms decide what it does with the photo and for how long. We have no tool to delete it there.
  • A leftover record. In some cases a phone can recreate a basic record that holds only a notification token, just after you delete. It holds no name or email address, but you could still get an Aleaf announcement. This is a fault in the app, not a choice. Turn off Aleaf notifications in your phone settings and email us. We remove such records when we find them.

What happens to some other records

  • Your inbox messages and notification history: they stay under your old account ID. Before you delete your account, you can swipe a message sideways on the Notifications screen and tap Delete. The screen shows the newest 100 messages. No deletion date.
  • Feedback and reports: the messages and photos you sent as feedback or as "This isn't what I scanned" reports stay. We remove your account ID from them. We keep them while they help us fix the product record or deal with your report. They may hold anything you wrote or photographed, so email us if you want one deleted. No deletion date.
  • The account ID on public product records: it stays. Anyone can read a product record, and it can carry your account ID, a random code that is not your name. No deletion date.
  • Your Sign in with Apple link: from version 1.0.1 (47) of the iPhone app, deleting your account also asks Apple to end the link between your Apple Account and Aleaf. With an older version it does not. In any version you can remove Aleaf yourself: on an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Sign in with Apple, choose Aleaf and follow the steps on the screen.

Analytics and app tools

Aleaf uses an analytics provider, hosted in the EU, and Google's Firebase tools to measure how the app is used and to find crashes. Our analytics provider identifies you by your account ID, not your name or email address. Before you sign up, it uses a random ID kept on your phone. When you sign up, the events from before join your profile, which is identified by your account ID.

Your analytics profile at our analytics provider is not deleted with your account. It holds your account ID, country, language and counts, and an event for each product you scanned. Email us before you delete your account and we will ask our analytics provider to delete it. Afterwards we cannot tell which profile was yours.

Our analytics provider keeps analytics events for the period set in our account with it. Google's Firebase measurement tools (crash reports, performance and usage statistics) receive technical details such as your phone model, app version and an installation ID. We do not give them your account ID, and we have no tool to delete their records for one person. Google keeps crash and performance data for a limited time.

On Android, the barcode reader (Google ML Kit) also sends Google technical details such as your phone model, app version and an installation ID. We have no tool to delete those records for one person either.

Your Aleaf Pro plan

If you bought Aleaf Pro, deleting your account does not stop it and does not give you a refund. Apple or Google keeps charging you until you stop the renewal, so stop the renewal before you delete your account. If you have already deleted your account, you can still stop it in the store in the same way.

  • iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Aleaf Pro and tap Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: sign in to the Google account that bought the plan, open Subscriptions in Google Play, choose Aleaf Pro and tap Cancel subscription.

If you were charged after you deleted your account, email support@aleafapp.com. We cannot stop the plan for you, because only the store can. If you bought on Google Play, we can refund a purchase ourselves, through Google Play. If you bought on the App Store, only Apple can refund a purchase, and Apple decides, so we will help you ask Apple. Your legal rights are not affected. Our Terms explain Aleaf Pro.

Invites and the leaderboard

Your invite code and link stop working. Friends you invited keep their accounts. Each keeps a note in their own profile that they were invited, which holds your old account ID. It points to nothing once your account is gone. If someone invited you, their invite count goes down by one. If you joined the leaderboard, you come off the board at once.

If you sign up again

You can create a new account at any time. It starts empty: your scans, Favourites and choices do not come back. If you still hold an Aleaf Pro plan with the same Apple or Google account, you can use Restore purchases in the new account.

The early access waitlist

The waitlist at aleafapp.com/join is separate from your Aleaf account, so deleting your account does not remove you from it. To be deleted from it, email us from the address you used to join. We stop emailing you when you unsubscribe.

Get a copy of your information

You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you at any time. It is easier before you delete your account, because afterwards most of it is gone from the app and our main database. A copy of what you deleted can stay in a backup for a limited time (see Backups under "What stays after you delete your account"). Email us and we will send you a copy within one month of confirming that you are the account holder.
